More Precious Than Jade

Hear the sweet chorus of lifted wings
Songbirds fly by the grace of the King
Hush now, child, and listen to the birds in the tree
Rustling feathers echo the name known only by He
The wind smells of roses and sweet incense
Breathe in and whisper petals to rejoice from now hence
The wealth of this world is what nature discloses
Who we are when we’re born is sufficient for His purpose
You saw the light of His love before you opened your eyes
His mark on you is what the world will despise
The soles of your feet are more costly than gold
The path set before you has been stained red and bold
The color of your eyes is more precious than jade
The hand that painted them bears the scars of the betrayed
Labor not for jewels, for money and fame
Such joy is brief and leaves hungry greed to tame
A single piece of copper from a widow’s hand
Is worth more than twenty from the haughty and grand
Give freely to the poor and to those who are helpless
Open your mouth to defend the innocent and speechless
You are a crown of glory in the hand of your Lord
You have been paid for with a price only One could afford
He came, little one, so you could have and enjoy life
And the point of this life, sweet child, is thus
To love the Lord our God as He first loved us.
