Here are the years that walk between:
twixt downfall and Deliverance.
Son of the morning once you were, yet
your arrogance has corrupted the purpose of you.
Like a lightning flash you fell from heaven -
faithless and accurséd.
Here are the years that walk between:
twixt the fall and the Flight.
Prowling the red clay and plush grass,
you seek whom you may devour.
Light-bringer and daystar once you were, yet
your treachery has poisoned the look of you.
Your forked tongue hides behind blackened teeth,
which rot with the narcotic sugar of deceit.
In these years you walk your reigning masquerade,
an empire of mendacious light -
to and fro
up and down
- feeding hungry hearts with rancid fruit.
Wipe wipe you cunningly the tears of the lost...
You stalk the gullibility of hearts -
adversary and accuser.
Here are the years that walk between:
twixt condemnation and Coronation.
You stand at the right hand of man,
a giant and irresistible warrior -
one hand flattering and stroking,
one hand indicting and stabbing.
What can men do against such reckless hate?
Brothers and sisters,
wipe wipe away the juice of spoiled fruit -
wash yourselves and relinquish your grasp of fear.
The way is not shut.
He who is able to hear, let him give heed -
there is always Hope.
Who is there to condemn us?
The darkness is clearing away: at dawn, look to the East -
The Light of the world sits at the right hand of God,
Pleading and interceding on our behalf.
He is the faithful and trustworthy Witness.
He is the Firstborn of the dead,
Who lovingly wipes away all tears with scarred Hands.
Here in these years that walk between,
twixt ruin and Rapture,
look to the Light.
Thereafter when the accuser makes you low,
you will say, there is a Lifting Up.

AND, here’s what I love about this poem:
1. Okay any of the lines that begin with TWIXT….. amazing.
Seriously? “TWIXT”? I’m weeping.
-downfall and Deliverance
-the fall and the Flight
-condemnation and Coronation
-ruin and Rapture
2. Next, any LOTR reference clearly was put in there to slay me:
“Your forked tongue (hides) behind (blackened) teeth”
“What can men do against such reckless hate?”
“The way is (not) shut.”
“there is always Hope”
“at dawn, look to the East”
3. Favorite lines/words
Prowling the red clay and plush grass,
Your forked tongue hides behind blackened teeth,
which rot with the narcotic sugar of deceit.
an empire of mendacious light
Brothers and sisters,
wipe wipe away the juice of spoiled fruit -
wash yourselves and relinquish your grasp of fear.
4. Repetitions
Well the constant references to the fruit:
-feeding hungry hearts with rancid fruit.
-wipe wipe away the juice of spoiled fruit
“Wipe wipe”:
-Wipe wipe you cunningly the tears of the lost…
-wipe wipe away the juice of spoiled fruit
HOLY MONKEY. this is bloody brilliant.
- i second sar on the "twixt" fascination, i mean seriously. twixt. TWIXT!
- i also second her on the four consonances that follow the twixt. those bring joy to my soul.
- i like how you keep saying the (example) "poisoned the look of you", it's somehow much more powerful than "poisoned your look". it seems much more active in its poisoning.
- this is probably my favorite line (although all lotr quotes immediately get little gold stars and prompt instantaneous weeping): feeding hungry hearts with rancid fruit.
- anytime you reference "there is a lifting up" i get cold chills. enough said.
da-aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang.
read this again.
i am m.o.o.f.e.d.
i like the lotr allusions!
Deliverance, Flight, Coronation, Rapture, = yes!
downfall, fall, condemnation, ruin = eww...
who doesn't like the word: twixt?
"- feeding hungry hearts with rancid fruit" = gag
yeah. i didn't read sarah's comment...but i basically said what she said...without the elaboration. sorry.
