Baby Penguin Nursed to Health at Brookfield Zoo

Darlene Broniewicz, senior keeper at Brookfield Zoo, holds a Humboldt penguin in an incubator. The 14-day-old chick was taken from its parents because it was not gaining enough weight.

Broniewicz introduces the 14-day-old Humboldt penguin chick to stuffed-animal penguins meant to simulate its parents.

Broniewicz tends to the Humboldt penguin chick in an incubator room at Brookfield Zoo Wednesday. It is being fed a vitamin-filled formula but will join the other penguins in three months.

The Humboldt penguin chick rests after a feeding at Brookfield Zoo Wednesday.
